For week 6 of GIS lab, we dived deeper into Projections and what it has to offer. For this lab we learned how to downloaded data for Labins and FGDL were we had to unzip and extract the data which were Quads of counties. We also learned how to make XY data and transfer it to ArcGIS and we worked a lot more with changing the projections to match. We practiced with these methods and then for the final part we took what we learned and applied to to make our own map with a quad and other specific layers with little to no instructions. The last part I feel helps a lot to strengthen or knowledge and helps us use ArcGIS more independently. In the next few weeks of GIS Lab we become more independent creating maps and we're well on our way to becoming experts. The map above showcases call the layers we needed to show mastery of how to download data, make XY data, and change the projections.

GIS 4035L: Lab 4 - Spatial Enhancement

 For Lab 4, Spatial Enhancement, we looked into learning how to work with Landsat 4-5 data form the official Glovis website and use ERDAS and ArcGIS Pro to run spatial enhancement tools on different image. The first and second exercise involved learning how to download and format data from the Glovis website. The third exercise involves using and manipulating image histograms for the LandSat data. The fourth and fifth exercise includes the use of Spatial Characteristics and Band Ratios to alter the band layers to make certain features pop out more than others. The sixth exercise involved examining the layer information of the image layers while the seventh exercise involved tying in all the exercises to now independently identify features with what was learned. Below shows 3 different maps showing a large river, lake, and snow cover features identified with spatial enhancement.

Week 1- Overview of ArcGIS

For the first week of Intro to GIS lab class, we performed a lab covering the basics of how to navigate through ArcGIS Pro. Learning the basics pf ArcGIS Pro will help in the more complex labs to come in the near future. This lab consist of learning how to prepare, add, and explore data, understanding and using symbolization of data, and how to create and export maps. The map provided shows the finished product of the lab and the population of different world countries. In the weeks to come, different aspects of GIS will be explored and more complex maps we be shown.
